چکیده

ABSTRACT Compact binaries such as double neutron stars or a star paired with black hole, are strong sources of gravitational waves during coalescence and also the likely progenitors various electromagnetic phenomena, notably short-duration gamma-ray bursts (SGRBs), kilonovae. In this work, we generate populations synthetic place them in galaxies from large-scale hydrodynamical galaxy evolution simulation, eagle. With our zELDA code, seeded proportion to formation rate, follow their merger using both bpass cosmic binary stellar codes. We track dynamical within host potential, estimate galactocentric distance at time merger. Finally, apply observational selection criteria allow comparison model population legacy sample SGRBs. find reasonable agreement redshift distribution (peaking 0.5 < z 1), morphologies, projected offsets (modal impact parameter ?10 kpc). Depending on simulation used, predict $\sim 16\!-\!35{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$ SGRB events would appear ‘host-less’, i.e. that merge high parameters have hosts fainter than detection limit (H > 26).

Merger Sites of Double Neutron Stars and Their Host Galaxies

Using the StarTrack population synthesis code we analyze the formation channels possibly available to double neutron star binaries and find that they can be richer than previously thought. We identify a group of short lived, tight binaries, which do not live long enough to escape their host galaxies, despite their large center-of-mass velocities. We present our most recent results on all possib...

Fallback accretion in the aftermath of a compact binary merger

Recent observations of long and short gamma-ray bursts have revealed a puzzling X-ray activity that in some cases continuous until hours after the burst. It is difficult to reconcile such time scales with the viscous time scales that an accretion disk can plausibly provide. Here I discuss the accretion activity expected from the material that during a compact binary merger coalescence is launch...

Host Galaxies Catalog Used in LIGO Searches for Compact Binary Coalescence Events

Coalescence events of binary systems with two compact objects are among the most promising gravitational wave sources for LIGO. Current analyses of LIGO data constrain the rates of these events given an astrophysical population model for the sources considered. A reasonable assumption is that this population follows the star formation rate, as traced by the galactic blue light luminosity. We de...

3 D spectroscopy with VLT / GIRAFFE - II : Are Luminous Compact Galaxies merger remnants ? ⋆

Luminous Compact Galaxies are enigmatic sources by many aspects. They can reach the luminosity of the Milky Way within a radius of only a few kpc. They also represent one of the most rapidly evolving populations of galaxies since they represent up to 1/5 of the luminous galaxies at redshift z = 0.7 while being almost absent in the local Universe. The measurement of their dynamics is crucial to ...

Binary Compact Object Coalescence Rates: the Role of Elliptical Galaxies

In this paper we estimate binary compact object merger detection rates for LIGO, including the potentially significant contribution from binaries that are produced in elliptical galaxies near the epoch of peak star formation. Specifically, we convolve hundreds of model realizations of ellipticaland spiralgalaxy population syntheses with a model for ellipticaland spiral-galaxy star formation his...
